Why Should I Use A Vitamin C Serum?

Why Should I Use A Vitamin C Serum?

You heard it somewhere and you’ve been told by your esthetician. You should use a Vitamin C serum to minimize the signs of aging. Alright you get it! But you’re not sure why. What does it do for your skin anyway? We turned to our licensed esthetician to learn more about the role of vitamin C in the prevention of sun damage.

Natural vs Photo-aging

Our skin is subject to two different types of aging processes: natural and environmental. While there’s not much we can do about natural aging - because it depends mostly on our genetic background - exposure to ultraviolet radiation can increase the speed of aging (known as photo-aging) resulting in inflammation, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, loss of elasticity, and collagen, etc. It is estimated that 90% of skin aging is caused by sun exposure.

Sun Exposure & Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation (commonly known as age spots) refers to darker than normal pigmentation caused by an increase in melanin (a pigment produced by cells called melanocytes). Why do we produce more melanin? When we get exposed to UV rays, the melanocytes produce more melanin in order to protect our skin from sun damage. Our deepest skin layers are also susceptible to UV radiation. When UV rays penetrate into the dermis, they damage our collagen and elastin fibers.

Did you know? Age spots don’t appear because we get old. They’re a result of cumulative sun damage you’ve been exposed to since birth.

C is for Collagen

We wanted to offer a unique product with multiple benefits from preventing photo-aging to promoting tissue healing. Our Collagen Booster contains 20% L-ascorbic acid to protect the skin from free radical damage and increase collagen production.

On top of carrying a professional level of vitamin C, our Collagen Booster is also infused with plant-derived antioxidants like mangosteen and resveratrol for their anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Filled with cutting-edge ingredients like gluconolactone and fructooligosaccharides, these two naturally occurring superheroes are found in our serum to help improve photo-aged skin and strengthen the skin barrier function.

Prevent & Protect with Vitamin C

When it comes to treating sun damage, there are no quick fixes, especially if you’re already experiencing some signs of photo-aging. Remember, these signs did not happen overnight. The key to a youthful glow is to prevent and protect. To do so, you’ll want to incorporate products designed to prevent sun damage. Hint! Hint! Adding our Collagen Booster serum to your skincare routine can limit and reduce the damage induced by sun exposure, and help regenerate elastin and collagen.
